Why should I go to Rocky Mountain Therapros for BFR?

Why Rocky Mountain Therapros?

If you are considering Personalized Blood Flow Restriction Training (PBFR), chances are you’ve gone down the rabbit hole of looking into various options and methods of training, including wraps, blood pressure cuffs, and other devices.  Why does it matter what device you’re using, and who you’re receiving treatment from?

Provider Education:

As with any modality of treatment, there are various methods of receiving the baseline level of education required for certification. The quality of education that your provider has invested in can greatly affect the potential risks of and the gains from your personalized blood flow restriction training.

RMTP therapists have received certification from Owen’s Recovery Science (ORS), the leading center for research, education, and development of PBFR training, and the only approved distributor of Delfi PTS devices. ORS certification requires the highest required education hours and the most hands on practice of any other PBFR certification in the industry. RMTP providers have also taken BFR courses from other educational bodies, and we can tell you that Owen’s Recovery Science is without a doubt the best educator in this area.

Equipment:

At Rocky Mountain Therapros (RMTP), we have invested in the Delfi Personalized Tourniquet System (PTS). This device is a pneumatic tourniquet, and uses an integrated doppler to  monitor your blood flow, allowing it to create a personalized tourniquet pressure throughout your entire session. This is superior to devices without a built in doppler which require the provider to skillfully perform an ultrasound by hand to monitor blood flow. The Delfi is monitoring and automatically adjusting to maintain programmed occlusion constantly throughout your session. The amount of pressure required to achieve a particular percentage of occlusion is different from person to person. Make sure that your provider is using equipment which “personalizes” your BFR program!

Pneumatic tourniquets are classified and regulated “Class I” devices by the FDA. The Delfi PTS is currently the only pneumatic tourniquet which has been listed with the FDA and indicated for PBFR use specifically. The use of knee wraps, blood pressure cuffs and other devices suggested for PBFR that do not meet the standards set forth by the FDA for a pneumatic tourniquet limit the ability to individually control blood flow during the session and therefore increase the risk of adverse outcomes to the patient.

During the PBFR session, the Delfi PTS:

  • Determines each patient’s individual limb occlusion pressure (how much pressure is required to reduce or completely eliminate blood flow),

  • Self calibrates and maintains the designated pressure throughout all exercises,

  • Allows for rapid inflation and deflation of the tourniquet cuff,

  • Utilizes wide and contoured cuffs to reduce pressure gradients.

What to expect:

We prescribe PBFR for strength and/or cardiovascular gains. PBFR also provides an analgesic effect and primes the system for maximum physiological benefits. The application of PBFR is brief and intermittent, typically 6-8 minutes per exercise, lasting up to 30 minutes total per session based on the specific protocol.  Research has shown that consistency and frequency make a difference on improvement outcomes: PBFR has been found to be most effective if used 2-3x per week, continuously for 4-6 weeks.

Now you know which education series and devices you should be seeking to get the best results from the time and money you invest in your blood flow restriction training. Schedule a session today with your local pro trained to the highest level using top of the line equipment for a safe and effective personalized blood flow restriction program.
